Street Food for Thought

09/08/2019

If you’ve ever walked along Lamb Street at lunchtime, you’ll have seen just how popular our food trucks are. Swarms of people waiting patiently in line for their order, or already tucking into Smokoloko steak sandwiches, Le Swine’s famous bacon rolls, Authentic Italian Lovely Pasta, Ebby’s squeaky halloumi wraps and so much more! Since the introduction of street food on Lamb Street and its growing popularity, we have been pleased to introduce more and more traders to the lineup, offering a plethora of flavours from around the world and plenty of choice.

Street food is booming, and we love being able to bring such a fantastic selection of cuisines to the thousands of visitors and local workers in and around Spitalfields, every single day. We are very aware that along with all that tasty street food, however, comes an equal amount of single-use, disposable packaging. The majority of our traders do their bit by serving their food in recyclable, biodegradable or compostable packaging, which is brilliant, but we want to take it to the next level and cut back on waste even further.

We’re constantly working to improve the way we do things here at Spitalfields and recycling has always been a priority for us. With all that we see and hear in the news about landfills and the impact of waste and litter on our environment, we know there is more to be done, so here’s our next step…

Help us do our bit for the planet, one delicious mouthful at a time.

To kick-start this important initiative and raise awareness of our long-standing zero-to-landfill commitment, we’ve created the Spitalfields Lunchbox. A stylish and sturdy container, microwave and dishwasher safe, that we’re gifting to the first 1,000 local workers who regularly buy lunch from our Lamb Street traders.

Of course, we don’t want it to just stop there, so from Thursday 5th September 2019, if you bring any reusable container and hand it to any of our street food traders participating in this offer, they will reward your effort with a 10% discount! Saving the planet and saving your pennies, sounds like a sweet deal to us. We hope you’ll join us in this step towards reducing waste at Spitalfields!
