The Spitalfields Guide To Being Single On Valentine’s Day
12/02/2018
As we all know, February 14th, AKA Valentine’s Day, is celebrated annually by couples with cute cards, gestures and gifts. However, statistics by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that around 51% of people in England and Wales are single. So in the words of Beyoncé: all my single ladies, put your hands up. Gentlemen, we’re talking to you too…
February 15th marks the annual Single’s Awareness Day (SAD), a humorous day providing singles with an alternative to Valentine’s day. So we’ve compiled a list of ideas to help you celebrate single life in and around Spitalfields to prove that it is everything but SAD.
1. Treat yourself. Go on, you deserve it.
We’re all about self-love on Single’s Awareness Day so what better way to show yourself some love than with some chocolatey goodness? We can’t get enough of Montezuma’s at the best of times, so who needs a Valentine to buy you heart-shaped chocolate when you can buy it (and eat it all) yourself?
We’re eyeing up their cute little Dark Peppermint Caramel Jar of Hearts. Alternatively… the ultimate in sweet-treat indulgence, and easily the most Instagrammable gift you could buy yourself, courtesy of Crosstown Doughnuts. Our favourites are the Mississippi Mud Pie and Chocolate Truffle.
2. If sweet treats aren’t your thing… Pamper yourself.
Because there’s nothing like a good pamper session to make you feel great about yourself. Time for relaxation and enjoying your own company. We highly recommend a visit to Kiehl’s to check out their range of luxury facemasks, moisturisers and hair treatments.
Pick from a plethora of feel-good formulas that will leave you feeling cleansed, hydrated and rejuvenated. Guys… Why not treat yourself to the ultimate male grooming experience at BarberBarber. Trust them to cleanse, exfoliate, steam and shave your face to perfection, leaving you feeling smooth, refreshed and ready to impress. Which brings us onto our next idea…
3. Go on a date.
Because some of the greatest Millennial love stories start with a Tinder date. Just kidding… We’re championing mate-dates this year. Spitalfields is home to some great bars and restaurants for you to grab your fellow singletons and spend your Thursday night with us.
Critically acclaimed, Michelin-Starred restaurant La Chapelle is the third Galvin restaurant to be opened by Chef brothers, Chris and Jeff Galvin, situated in the stunning 19th Century grade II listed St. Botolph’s Hall, Spitalfields. The menu boasts fine classic French bistrot cuisine, including plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. Not to mention to wine list… For more relaxed vibes, head next door where you’ll find Galvin HOP, La Chapelle’s younger, pub deluxe brother. If craft beer and gourmet pub grub is more your thing, this is the place for you.
