How to Live More Sustainably at Spitalfields

16/01/2020

Here at Spitalfields, we are so much more than just a market. Our retailers, restaurants, food trucks and traders all have a strong story to tell about why they do what they do, and why they love what they do. So, whether you’re challenging yourself to commit to some serious resolutions this year, having a go at #Veganuary or just want some tips on how to make a few conscious changes, we’re sharing a selection of helping hands from some friendly faces below.

ViMi – Zero Waste Lifestyle

Exactly what it says on the tin! Vishal and Mitali (ViMi) are dedicated to ridding East London (and the rest of the world) of single-use plastic and leading them towards a zero-waste lifestyle. They offer a plethora of plastic alternatives, including coffee cups, food wrap, dental care, cotton buds and cutlery – the list goes on and still growing! The newest addition to their range is the ViMibrush, a sustainable bamboo toothbrush. Head over to their stall for some tips from the guys about the small changes you can make to live more sustainably.

bema

Short for ‘be more alive’, bema is so much more than just a cute looking food truck. Their vibrant plant-based bowls are all gluten-free, vegan and packed full of flavours from across the globe. As well as serving up tasty, flavourful, high-protein dishes, bema is totally committed to conscious living. All of their packaging is compostable/recyclable and they donate 5% of meals sold to communities in London with no access to healthy eating. Tempted to try? Order online via their iOS app or website, then simply turn up and your dish will be ready and waiting.

Electrickery

Ever thought of your old computer circuit board as ‘art’? Say hello to Electrickery! The man behind the metal, David Wright, creates striking pieces of art from recycled circuit boards and other computer components. His brilliant bug sculptures include butterflies, bats, dragonflies and bees, and his work doesn’t stop at wall art. He also creates unique jewellery and gifts. Inspired by nature, realised through recycling! Catch David (if you can!) at Spitalfields every weekend.

Leon

Struggling for Veganuary inspiration? Leon to the rescue! They’ve created some incredible vegan dishes to make sure you continue to enjoy your favourite fast food without the meat. Choose from crispy Jack Wings, spicy Lentil Masala or the brand-new Love Burger- a beetroot soya patty topped with burger sauce, Carolina mustard mayo, tomatoes, pickles and a slice of smoked gouda-style vegan cheese. And if you can’t get enough of your new-found plant-based lifestyle, pick up the ‘Fast Vegan’ recipe book on your next visit and cook up a vegan storm from the comfort of your very own home.

Ready to make a change? Remember, if you bring your own tuppaware of container to selected food trucks, they will reward you with 10% off your lunch. Saving the planet one bite at a time!
