With a scorching hot Bank Holiday weekend on the way, and warm weather set to continue into next week, there’s no better time to make the most of Spitalfields. From free outdoor dancing and cultural markets to live sport on the big screen, street food and walking tours, Spitalfields has plenty lined up for a sun-soaked few days in London.
Here’s how to make the most of the sunshine at Spitalfields this weekend.
Catch the action at the Spitalfields Summer Screen
From Thursday 22 May
The Spitalfields Summer Screen returns to Bishops Square on Thursday 22 May, bringing a season of live sport to the heart of the city.
Taking over the square throughout the summer, the free outdoor screen will show a programme of major sporting events on a giant 188-inch screen, including Wimbledon tennis, with more fixtures to be announced.
Bishops Square makes an easy alfresco base for the action, whether you’re dropping by on your lunch break, meeting friends after work or making the most of a sunny weekend in London. With restaurants, bars, terraces, shops, and street food traders all around the market, there are plenty of ways to turn a match into an afternoon.
Just moments from the screen, Lamb Street is home to some of Spitalfields’ best grab-and-go street food, ideal for a takeaway picnic in front of the live action.
Dance into the afternoon with Tango Fever
24th May, 1pm to 5pm
Tango-Fever will return to Spitalfields this weekend with another of its much-loved free outdoor milongas in Bishops Square. Taking place from 13:00 to 17:00, the event will give Londoners the chance to enjoy tango dancing, whether you’re a seasoned dancer or complete beginner. Tango-Fever is both welcoming and social, with no booking required and no partner needed.
