Experience Africa at Spitalfields Market this Bank Holiday

Africa at Spitalfields pop-up market returns to East London on Bank Holiday Monday, 27 May between 10am – 5pm. The free event will celebrate African cultures, cuisines and craftsmanship, with a chance to discover and explore a range of products and flavours from an array of traders and food vendors.

Visitors can also enjoy free textile workshops, dance performances and a live screening of Culture Tree’s latest film. The Africa at Spitalfields pop-up market is a unique retail experience in the heart of the Spitalfields Market.

The pop-up will welcome 60 traders and vendors to the area offering a vast selection of art, literature, clothing, toys, accessories and interior design products. Visitors are able to shop from brands including Tribal Unicorn (luxury candles), Sock of a Kind (premium African inspired socks), O’KNOLLA (contemporary art pieces), and Fela & Friends (handcrafted dolls).

This year’s Africa at Spitalfields is part of the London Africa Food Week, bringing together some of the best and most innovative dishes from an exciting selection of African chefs in London.

The visitors can sample re-imagined Nigerian fusion food by Chef SiÁ, as well as Puff Puff Ministry’s popular west African doughnuts as featured on Channel 4’s Aldi’s Next Big Thing.

Throughout the day, visitors can partake in free textile and sewing workshops hosted by fashion and creative arts education charity, Caramel Rock, as well as enjoy dance performances and a screening of Culture Tree’s educational film ÀWÒRÁN – A Yoruba Heritage Mural Film.

The documentary is an important exploration of Yoruba Heritage mural in Peckham, also known as ‘Little Lagos’, highlighting the artistic process, cultural importance, and the community involvement behind this remarkable artwork.
