Wildefolk Theatre Presents “The Overcoat”

Wildefolk Theatre Presents “The Overcoat”: A Magical Christmas Show for Children Inspired by Nikolai Gogol

Wildefolk Theatre is thrilled to announce its festive production of The Overcoat, a visually captivating and heartwarming family show that reimagines Nikolai Gogol’s classic tale through an enchanting blend of shadow puppetry, clowning, and storytelling. Running from November 26th to December 23rd, 2024, at the historic Spitalfields Market, The Overcoat promises to be a Christmas adventure filled with laughter, warmth, and holiday magic—a perfect family outing this festive season.

About the Play:

Get ready for an unforgettable adventure – The Overcoat, a thrilling adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s classic tale brought to life by Wildefolk Theatre. Leading the charge are Sam and
Ted, two crack(ed) investigators from the “Department of Very Important Investigations,” who are hot on the trail of a mysterious thief who is wreaking havoc by stealing overcoats
across town. Expect buckets of slapstick silliness and unstoppable energy, as Sam and Ted dive headfirst into a case that quickly spirals into a heart-pounding journey through the snowy streets of this bustling city. Armed with their trusty magnifying glasses and quick thinking, they’ll need all their wit to solve the case before it’s too late!

At the heart of this wintery mystery is Akaki, a humble clerk whose life is turned upside down by one simple decision: replacing his old, beloved coat. When Akaki finally splurges on a magnificent new overcoat, he’s swept up in a whirlwind of unexpected twists and turns. His new coat not only transforms his appearance, but throws him into a series of adventures. As his world shifts around him, the spirit of Akaki learns that the true magic of the season isn’t in material things, but in the warmth of human kindness.

Through dazzling shadow puppetry, very funny moments (even if we say so ourselves), and captivating storytelling, The Overcoat blends the high-stakes excitement of Sam and Ted’s investigation with the heartwarming journey of Akaki. This visually stunning production will keep audiences on the edge of their seats, while delivering a powerful message about friendship, generosity, and the magic that lies in everyday acts of kindness.
