If you’re meat-free, dairy-free and prefer to live a plant-based life, we’re sure you’ll be pleased to see the progress of restaurants and fast food joints across London expanding on their vegan offering. Last year we saw many of our food operators introduce more and more items free from any kind of animal product, so we’ve put together a list of our favourite vegan eats, both savoury and sweet, for you to try…
Konditor’s Chocolate Raspberry Velvet cake is what a chocoholic’s dreams are made of, and truly the best vegan cake we’ve ever tasted! This moist chocolatey masterpiece consists of a chocolate sponge (with raspberry jam in the sponge), a sweet raspberry compote between the layers, then topped with a smooth layer of dairy-free chocolate ganache and fresh, freeze-dried raspberries. Available as a full-size cake, by the slice or as a mini bake, because everyone knows cake isn’t just for birthdays…
Giraffe recently added a whole bunch of vegan dishes to their menu and we couldn’t wait to try them. On chilly London days there’s nothing better than a warm, hearty bowl of deliciousness and their Jackfruit Curry, served with jasmine rice, did not disappoint. If you’ve got room for dessert, (always) the chocolate & coconut torte is truly out of this world.
Leon is home to a pretty extensive vegan offering but of course, we have our favourites. At the beginning of the year, Leon launched their LOVE Burger and we’ve got nothing but love for this bad boy! Consisting of a soya-beetroot patty topped with a vegan Carolina mustard mayo, burger sauce, tomatoes, pickles and smoked gouda-style vegan cheese, sandwiched between a sourdough bun. This, coupled with their famous Baked Fries and finished off a Jaffa Cake is an ideal lunch when we’re on the go.
Crosstown’s vegan doughnuts are the ultimate sweet treat. Having tried the entire Crosstown menu, we can confirm that their 100% plant-based offering is every bit as delicious as the original. Our top three, in no particular order, have to be: Vegan Cinnamon Scroll, Vegan Coconut & Lime and Vegan Chocolate Ring. If your mouth is currently watering, head to Lamb Street where you’ll find Dorothy the doughnut truck inside the market…
Itsu’s new Tokyo Wraps have quickly become our favourite items in the Itsu fridge. The vegan option is stuffed with a quinoa burger, avocado and all the usual shredded salad and punchy sauces. This, paired with a steaming hot cup of miso soup, is our go-to for a super quick, light and tasty lunch. Our Itsu in Spital Square has plenty of seating so it’s a perfect spot for chowing down with some friends or colleagues, away from your desk!
bema are serving up fast, conscious food in Bishops Square- just look out for their yellow pod! As well as being 100% plant-based and free from gluten, bema care about sustainability. All their ingredients have been mindfully-sourced and their packaging is all biodegradable. Choose one of their wholesome bema bowls or create your own!
Montezuma’s Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate Truffle Bites are the ultimate indulgent chocolate treat. Totally moreish, these little dream balls are made from dark chocolate with a squishy peanut butter centre – the perfect mix of salty and sweet. Great for when the afternoon sugar cravings kick in at around 3pm, but be warned, once you start you can’t stop… before you know it you’ll be reaching into an empty packet!
