Whether you’ve got the moves like Jagger or two left feet, there’s a dance event for you at Spitalfields E1 this summer. These events are 100% FREE, so if you fancy coming along to any of the dances, just check the dates and times below – then dance the summer away!
Tango 10th anniversary
The month started with a dance celebration – Tango at Spitalfields E1 had its ten-year anniversary! Over the first weekend of June, Spitalfields played host to the quintessential summer tango event with Tango-Fever! There was live music, dance performances, world-class tango DJs and plenty of social dancing, but don’t worry if you missed it – there are plenty of other Tango events at Spitalfields E1!
Tango at Spitalfields
As well as the 10th-anniversary event, Tango at Spitalfields E1 will continue as usual – a series of outdoor milongas for you to learn all the tango steps and styles. The Argentinian dance has been proven to have numerous health benefits including emotional health, and with the event being free has there ever been a better opportunity to learn the dance of passion?
Spitalfields Tea Dances
The Tea Dances are a series of dances suitable for all ages, abilities, shapes and sizes at Spitalfields E1. The Covent Garden Orchestra will be playing a number of different songs whilst you show off your Foxtrot, Quickstep and Cha Cha at Crispin Place. And don’t forget to grab a cup of tea and a slice of cake whilst you’re there!
Salsa Tropical
The Latin vibes of Salsa are hitting the heart of East London! This series of summer Salsa dance sessions includes a half hour lesson for beginners, followed by communal dancing for all abilities. The event run by Salsa Tropical is not only a way to have fun, but also a very social dance and great for meeting new people!
Swing Patrol
Swing Patrol is back with a number of outdoor events, focusing on numerous different styles of swing dancing – the Charleston, the Balboa, and our favourite – the Jitterbug! Swing Patrol already encompasses a community of over 1,000 dancers across London, and through these events, you could join them! You can also find Swing Patrol performing at Grandfest to help entertain the crowd on 18th June.
Swing Train
As if that wasn’t enough swing for you, there’s more – Swing Train will be running a series of outdoor classes to get you fit! After securing investment on BBC Dragon’s Den, this fitness regime has been dubbed ‘the Zumba of swing’ – the workout takes inspiration from the moves of the Lindy-hop, Charleston and more! The full body cardio workouts exercise legs, arms and core, and the classes are suitable for all levels of fitness and coordination.
So which dance class do you think you’ll be trying out? Or why not all of them? However you move your feet at Spitalfields E1 this summer, make sure to share your pictures with us on Facebook and Instagram!
** These are outdoor events held in an open public space. There are no lockers or changing rooms provided so please be mindful of any personal belongings you may bring with you**
