Galvin Bistrot & Bar

Galvin Bistrot & Bar reflects the look and style of the great French bistrots of Paris and Lyon. We serve deep-flavoured dishes at reasonable prices and showcase the best seasonal produce.

Chris & Jeff Galvin, Michelin-starred British brothers, opened their first restaurant, the much-loved Galvin Bistrot de Luxe on London’s Baker Street, in 2005. After 13 years, the restaurant closed, “It was with very heavy hearts that we closed Bistrot de Luxe” Chris said, “and we were overwhelmed by the messages of support that we received from customers at the time. It was a special place for many people.”

Chris and Jeff felt that the modern addition next to their iconic, Michelin-starred Galvin La Chapelle, was the perfect place to re-create the informality and friendliness of the classic bistrot. They wanted to, again, provide a place where family and friends could eat traditional French bistrot dishes, drink great wines and have fun together without spending a fortune.

The restaurant features bentwood chairs, leather banguettes, blackboards, and mirrors marked with the day’s specials, wine posters and antique pictures, sitting alongside objects d’Art- and a curvaceous zinc bar, with its own history. The tables are chequered with red and white table cloths which invoke the sense of walking down a street in Paris.

The food, service and ambience are distinctly French, with classic bistrot dishes such as Soupe de Poisson, Steak Tartare, Salad of Endive and Roquefort and with mains like Skate with Brown Butter, Wood Roast Chicken with salad, and Steak au Poivre with frites. Desserts include Galvin’s highly praised Apple Tarte Tatin with crême fraiche, Baba au Rhum and Floating Island with crème Anglaise.

The wines are predominantly French, with a sprinkling of other European and New World wines. Jeff & Chris are passionate in their support for small producers and have visited many of the vineyards represented on the list. And for the more serious wine drinker, the extensive wine list of La Chapelle will be on offer in the Bistrot and Bar.

There is also a range of craft and local beers and draft unpasteurised Pilsner Urquell from huge copper tanks behind the zinc bar.

Galvin Bistrot & Bar has an outdoor terrace as well as a hidden garden for private parties.
