A visual summary of 2020 at Spitalfields Market

SPITALFIELDS DEVELOPMENT 2021 Despite a tumultuous year of tiers, lockdowns and ever-changing rules and regulations when it comes to the hospitality and retail industry, Spitalfields Market has maintained a strong presence, both online and offline. Transparency has been key, not only to ensure safety for traders, staff, and visitors, but to ensure all marketing activity is accurate and easily accessible. The market may have been forced to remain closed for a number of months in 2020, but this year not only are we updating our incredible retail offering and welcoming some very exciting new brands to one of London’s favourite hangout spots, we’re also making some changes to the actual market too! We’re extending the shop fronts along Market Street to make them more accessible, and we’re also taking the roof off which will provide a much more open feeling! In preparation for another glorious summer in London, shoppers will be given a complimentary dose of much-needed vitamin D as well as being able to enjoy beautiful views of Hawksmoor’s Christ Church during their visit. At roof level, we are building a wildflower and sedum green roof to support wildlife, aid air quality and help us continue our journey to a more sustainable future. Proud to be East London’s most historic market, Spitalfields has so much heritage, and the brand-new two-story building works currently underway is designed to reflect that. A huge variety of street food from around the world will be available on the ground level, with shops and boutiques on the second floor. Construction works and safety hoarding will commence around April 2021 and finish early next summer. We appreciate your patience whilst this essential work is being undertaken, and we look forward to unveiling your new market!
