Spitalfields Christmas Gift Guide 2020

15/12/2020

What a rollercoaster 12 months it’s been! Covid may have slightly taken over, but in the true spirit of Christmas, it’s important to focus on the good and bring that energy with us into the new year.

The impact of immediate closure of non-essential stores for a pretty substantial part of the year has made it more important than ever to shop local and support small, independent business’ as much as possible. Whether it’s purchasing a gift voucher for when they can trade again, pay for your next appointment in advance, shop online or order takeout, we share some brilliant ways to show the small biz of our East End market some love this season – not to mention they make the perfect Christmas gift too! (For yourself or a loved one – no judgement here!)

For the Family

Nothing says ‘I love you’ like something you can cherish forever, catch a glimpse of every day and be reminded of that special someone. Hanging on the wall, it brightens up a room and offers a unique view you can gaze adoringly at whenever you want. Not to mention it doubles as a talking point when you have guests over. .

Have you guessed what it is it? If you missed out on our Festive Arts Market, and last one of the year –sob! – then you’re in luck, as you can shop each artist’s work directly through their websites. We love Allegra Rose’s work. As well as being incredibly unique, she adds gold leaf to her collages and prints, for that extra special touch.

For the Foodie

Tucking into your favourite dish from one of the well-renowned Godfathers of Street Food from the comfort of your own home – is this what dreams are made of? Make someone’s dreams come true this Christmas with the brand–new DIY kits from The Duck Truck! Choose from the Crispy Duck Wrap, Confit Duck Legs, OG Duck Briche Bun or the Duck Fat Chips – or all 4 if you’re feeling extra generous this year! Order here.

For the Fashionista

Whatever your budget for gifts this year, you are sure to find something perfect from one of the jewellery traders here in the market. Find all things pure, including gemstones and feathers at Elements by Nature; statement sterling silver and gold pieces at Sonia Santamaria; brilliant bespoke jewels at Sefa Hyuk; gorgeous gold hoops and huggies at NB Accessories; and simple elegant designs from Naye.

For Furry Friends

Good boys – and girls – who have caught every ball, shook every paw, rolled over at every command, and ‘sat’ for the first time deserve a festive treat too, right? Look no further than Edwyn UK, the dog-friendly designers on hand to ensure your pooch looks the part this season!

As well as selling a beautiful range of handmade dog neckerchiefs, Edwyn also stock treat pouches, toys, face masks, Christmas decorations and keyrings! Shop the Etsy store here.

For the Person Who Has Everything

We all have the one person in our lives who we find impossible to buy gifts for. So why not give the gift of life and hope this year?

For just £35 a year, you can adopt an elephant from the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and make Christmas miracles a reality for rescued orphans. Each adoption includes a personalised Christmas gift adoption certificate, monthly adoption updates, a monthly watercolour by Angela Sheldrick and access to exclusive photos and videos.

Head to the Sheldrick Trust website for more information, or come to Spitalfields and walk among thelife-sized bronze herd of 21 sculptures and discover the stories of the real-life orphans they represent.

Visiting us this weekend? Take advantage of our pop-up gift wrapping station which will be here on both Saturday 19th December from 10:00-16:00.
