The number of street food trucks and vendors popping up around London is increasing rapidly by the day, and Londoners are loving it! Perhaps you’re a local worker looking for a hearty lunch to warm you up on a gloomy Monday, a tourist on the search for an indulgent Insta-worthy treat to make your Saturday extra sweet, or just desperately in need of a combination of all your favourites because you can’t quite put your finger on the cuisine you’d quite fancy? Well we’ve rounded up the best of the best, just for you and they’re all right here at Spitalfields.
Legends of the street food scene and brand new to Lamb Street here in Spitalfields, award-winning sandwich Gods Sub Cult have been the talk of the town for just over 5 years and have no plans of stopping. Trading from the ol’ faithful ‘Soul Roller’ Sub Cult make everything fresh to order, these guys pay as much attention to the secret-recipe of soft bagel/brioche dough as they do to the mammoth fillings, bearing names such as ‘Pimp My Rodeo’, and the infamous ‘Subfather’. Not to mention this years’ seasonal special, the ‘Jive Turkey’ (you had us at ‘smoked pancetta gravy!’)
Awarded the “Master of the bacon butty” by Time Out London, Le Swine are the go-to when it comes to a hearty breakfast, and this was in fact, exactly how the company was founded- the desire for a bacon butty that hits the spot every time. Lightly toasted milk bun, bacon butter, their signature mushroom ketchup and the piece de resistance- the bacon- which has been sourced from the happiest and healthiest pigs in the country! Be sure to order a fried duck egg with it cooked as runny as you like! Warning, once you’ve been Swine’d, you’ll never settle for another bacon butty again.
Rainbo by name, rainbow by nature! These colourful delights have become a firm favourite amongst London’s top food bloggers, and Lamb Street locals have been bao-ing down to the ‘Gyoza Gazebo’ and tucking into tasty Tokyo treats like dumplings, katsu dishes and their moreish selection of Asian small plates. What’s more, Rainbo recently snagged the runner-up title of ‘Best Cheap Eats’ in the prestigious Observer Food Monthly Awards, meaning you don’t have to wait till payday to feast like a King.
