The Vegetarian’s guide to Spitalfields E1

To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, 15th – 21st May, we want to share the tasty treats that veggies can tuck into at Spitalfields E1. Vegetarianism is on the rise with around 3 million vegetarians in the UK, so it’s important to us that you’re well-catered for when you visit East London. From cheese to chickpeas, beans to burgers, here are our best veggie bites!

Leon caters not just to vegetarians, but also vegans, pescetarians, gluten-free, dairy-free, and even caters to the pregnant, but this has never led to a shortfall in flavour. Delicious examples include the super-clean quinoa salad featuring semi-dried tomatoes, peas, cucumber, fresh mint and parsley and topped with pomegranate seeds. Simple, delicious and a great lunch option if you’re on the go.

More in the mood for the flavours of the far east? The veggie box from Itsu is only 318 calories aligning perfectly with Itsu’s focus on low calorie, highly nutritious food. The sushi-filled box contains veggie maki, avocado baby maki and veggie gyoza dumplings with shichimi pepper.

As the country with the most vegetarians in the world, it’s easy to take inspiration from Indian cuisine. And that’s exactly what Giraffe’s world kitchen has done – its new Kati Roll is inspired by the street-food favourite from Kolkata. Cumin-roasted cauliflower, chickpeas, pomegranate, red onion and coriander combined in a naan with yoghurt and chutney. Yum!

Speaking of street food, we’ve got plenty, and if you’re a fan of cheese then The Toastie Truck is the place for you! Mature cheddar, mozzarella and smoked Monterey Jack blend in perfect harmony in the ‘Cheesed Off’ toastie – the ultimate treat for cheese devotees.

There’s plenty more veggie street food every Friday at the Startisans food market, which adds to the wealth of vegetarian options available at Spitalfields E1. Almost every artisanal market stall has at least one veggie option, not to mention some that specialise in veggie food like Joginder’s Supperclub, offering artisan veggie samosas and other Indian snacks.

Celebrate National Vegetarian Week at Spitalfields E1 and give your animal-friendly tastebuds a treat!
